About this course
Applied Occupational Health and Safety is Part 2 of the iSKOLAR+ Microcredentials course on Occupational Safety and Health. It builds on Part 1, Basics of Occupational Safety and Health, and focuses on the practical application of OSH principles in the workplace—particularly the assessment of occupational hazards and risks, and the development of appropriate intervention strategies and OSH programs.
It is a comprehensive, analytical guide for occupational health and safety practitioners, including occupational physicians, occupational nurses, safety officers, human resource managers, employers, and other professionals who promote safe and healthy work environments.
Under Republic Act No. 11058, the OSH Law, mandatory training is required to ensure a safe and legally compliant workplace.
What you will learn
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Explain the concepts, causes, effects, and prevention of occupational injuries and accidents, including unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, accident causation theories, safety inspection, and accident investigation procedures.
- Identify and apply occupational safety and health standards, protocols, and control measures, including engineering controls, administrative controls, personal protective equipment, industrial hygiene practices, and health promotion strategies.
- Conduct hazard identification and health risk assessment by evaluating workplace hazards, exposure pathways, risk factors, and control measures.
- Discuss the basic principles of occupational toxicology, including toxic agents, dose-response relationships, toxicity testing, risk assessment, risk management, and the health effects of chemical exposure.
- Explain the role of occupational epidemiology and health surveillance in identifying, monitoring, preventing, and controlling work-related diseases, injuries, and exposures.
