About this course
The Guide to Road Safety and Injury Prevention is a microcredential course that provides foundational knowledge and practical understanding of road safety, injury prevention, and post-crash response. It responds to the urgent public health concern of road traffic injuries, which remain a leading cause of death globally and disproportionately affect low- and middle-income countries such as the Philippines.
The Decade of Action for Road Safety (UN General Assembly Resolution 64/255) identifies five pillars for reducing road-related fatalities and injuries. Road traffic injuries—particularly under Pillar 5, Post-crash Response—are also among the Department of Health’s Priority Health Outcomes. The course helps bridge knowledge gaps and prepares learners to support effective prevention and safer, more resilient road safety systems.
What you will learn
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Describe the global burden of road traffic crashes using statistics and trends.
- Identify and describe the five pillars of road safety and their roles in preventing road traffic injuries.
- Identify key Philippine laws, policies, and regulations, and the roles of government agencies involved in road safety enforcement.
- Describe the components of an effective post-crash response system.
- Identify different trauma scoring systems and their importance in injury assessment.
- Analyze road safety issues using policy briefs.
- Identify common risk factors associated with unsafe road user behavior.
- Promote positive safety behaviors that reduce the risk of road traffic injuries.

Recognized among Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists (2024 and 2025), she has published 100 journal articles and chairs the Mining Occupational Safety and Health Scientific Committee of the International Commission on Occupational Health.
